Planning a Multigenerational Vacation to Maui

I love that you’re thinking about a multigenerational family vacation to Maui! There’s no better place to spend time with your extended family. As a Maui family photographer, I’ve photographed many extended family sessions over the years, and I just love it. I’ve learned a few tips from my clients from over the years and would love to share them with you!

Here are six tips on planning a multigenerational vacation to Maui:

1.CREATE A BUDGET

Create a vacation budget and determine who will pay for what. Trust me, having this conversation early will save a lot of headaches later!

2.HAVE A POINT PERSON

I’m guessing that’s you since you’re reading this! It’s great to have a point person who knows the plan. Don’t be afraid to delegate certain tasks to others if your family, though. You could book accommodation while your mom is in charge of planning meals and your sister plans activities. Just make sure you communicate with each other!

3. FIND ACTIVITIES FOR EVERY LEVEL

Traveling with multiple generations is SO much fun! Luckily, there’s so much to do on Maui that you’ll be able to find things to do with everyone. I have my list of top 10 Maui favs for your trip right here. Find activities that will be fun for every activity level. It’s totally cool to break up the group and have some people do a certain activity while others do something else.

4. PLAN DOWNTIMES

Certain activities you’ll have to book in advance (like whale watching or boat rides/rentals). However, other activities can be penciled in. I highly recommend planning for downtime. Don’t pack in as many things in one day as you can. It’s tempting, but it’ll result in stress. Maybe plan an activity for the morning and let the afternoon be open for whatever your family wants to do. Swim in the pool, go shopping, nap, or whatever!

5. SOAK IN THE MOMENT

Being in a magical place with your whole family is truly amazing. Please take the time to slow down and soak it all in! Once you’re here in Maui, I urge you to unplug and enjoy this time. You deserve to connect and make memories with your family.

6. TAKE PROFESSIONAL FAMILY PHOTOS

Your entire family is in one place!? This deserves to be documented with professional photography. You will NOT regret taking the time to take photos. Here are my best tips for planning a multigenerational family vacation photo. Your whole family will treasure the memories made from this trip and love having professional-quality photos and artwork to match.
